Hanson to launch MMMHop beer

Hanson are launching their own beer.
The musical brothers Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson are in the process of developing an Indian Pale Ale which they plan to release in early 2012, and are going to name the beverage MMMHop after their biggest hit 'MMMBop'.
However, the group admitted they are unlikely to ever follow in the footsteps of other boy bands and develop miniature dolls of themselves.
Speaking at Oxford University Union on Monday night, Zac said: 'We of course make records, they are fundamental to what we do, but we wanted to create a brand so that our fans have a greater experience.
'What is vital is that Hanson merchandise is quality and not made solely with the purpose of profit. We have a board game and even a record player to play our last record on, but we will never make dolls, lunch boxes or toothbrushes that play our songs for example.
'It's vital our fans have trust in everything Hanson do. In fact we are soon going to be selling our own beer, I'm not even joking. MMMHop IPA anyone?'
Hanson are not the first band to launch their own beer, as last month British group Elbow developed Build A Rocket Boys Beer in honour of their album of the same name, while Def Leppard's Joe Elliott launched a lager named Down 'N' Outz.
Elsewhere, the likes of AC/DC and Carlos Santana have developed their own wines.

Hanson brand Janet Devlin cover 'poor'

Hanson have branded Janet Devlin's version of their hit song 'MMMBop' on Saturday's (26.11.11) 'X Factor' as ''p**s poor'' and admit the Irish teen probably deserved to be booted off the ITV1 talent show.
Hanson have branded Janet Devlin's version of their hit song 'MMMBop' on Saturday's (26.11.11) 'X Factor' as "p**s poor".
The Irish singer was booted off the ITV1 talent show after forgetting the words to the 90s hit and the group's drummer Zac Hanson admits he was far from impressed with her rendition.
He said: "She seemed really nervous and she did a pretty p**s-poor job of it. Not trying to be mean, I think she can sing but there's a certain groove to that song that comes from listening to doo-wop records and Motown records and that's the way you have to sing it, with that in mind.
Janet Devlin
"It sounded like she was singing it as straight as possible. It was like she didn't remember the song."
However, Zac admitted he wouldn't be against working alongside Janet in the future.
He told The-Fly.co.uk: "She has a good voice though so I wouldn't turn it down if she wanted to co-write a song."
After being given the axe, Janet claimed she was actually glad to have left the show as she felt it was turning her into a "karaoke" artist.
She said: "To me the sad thing about 'X Factor' is that it's brought me down a lot, I was just covering other people's songs and it got to the point that I just felt like a karaoke artist every Saturday night."

Hanson Develop Their Own Beer For No Good Reason At All

You know what market hasn’t been tapped? A market that really has been crying out for someone to fill? The ironically loved 90s one-hit wonder alcohol market! So thank the stars that Hanson are here and flogging a beer they’ve developed!
That’s right, music brothers Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson are in the process of developing an Indian Pale Ale which won’t be stocked by an real ale enthusiast pubs in early 2012.
Of course, what with it being pop related, it’s going to need a pun-based name, right? Get ready to wonder what it would be like to order a foaming pint of MMMHop. And how dare you assume that we made that name up.
Without any trace of irony, Zac Hanson, speaking at the Oxford University Union on Monday night, said:
“We of course make records, they are fundamental to what we do, but we wanted to create a brand so that our fans have a greater experience.
“What is vital is that Hanson merchandise is quality and not made solely with the purpose of profit. We have a board game and even a record player to play our last record on, but we will never make dolls, lunch boxes or toothbrushes that play our songs for example.
“It’s vital our fans have trust in everything Hanson do. In fact we are soon going to be selling our own beer, I’m not even joking. MMMHop IPA anyone?”
Get all that? There’s a whole bunch of merch out there that no-one has bought because Hanson haven’t been at all relevant since the ’90s.
Of course, making your own beer is in vogue for musicians. For a few months now, you’ve been able to buy the Elbow-developed Build A Rocket Boys Beer and Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott launched a lager named Down ‘N’ Outz.
It’s more usual for a band to get a taste for wine and such, because it means you can have regular holidays to vineyards in France and Italy on the expenses, but y’know, lager… drink of the people… people’s bands… all that bullshit.
Whatever.
Next week: Nik Kershaw releases Pot Noodle rival called Wouldn’t It Be Rice and Chris De Burgh sets up Lady Is Dead funeral parlour for ‘a greater fan experience’.

X Factor: Janet Devlin kicked off show after forgetting words to Hanson's Mmm Bop

Irish singer Janet Devlin missed out on a place in the X Factor semi-final after her lacklustre performance failed to win her votes.

The teenager forgot some of the words to 90s hit Mmm Bop on Saturday night's show, later blaming the mistake on feeling like she was ''going to throw up'' after eating something funny.
Her second song, Red Hot Chili Peppers' Under the Bridge, was marginally more successful but not enough to save her from last night's sing-off with Mancunian Misha B.
Janet, 17, hoped singing Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol would be enough to win over the judges, but they preferred her rival's version of Out Here on My Own from the musical Fame.
Mentor Kelly Rowland was unable to choose between her two acts and abstained from voting, having admitted ''feeling sick'' when both girls ended up in the bottom two.

Louis Walsh had already decided to save Misha B however, saying: ''I'm going to pick the person who's going to give the most to this competition.''

He was followed by Tulisa, who voted for Misha B after saying she wanted to save the person ''who's going to sell records, who's going to sell out arenas''.

Kelly's decision to abstain meant Janet was automatically sent home as the majority had already chosen her to go - but Take That singer Gary Barlow later admitted he would have also saved Misha B.

Asked how she felt at the news, Janet said: ''I don't know. Obviously I'm very confused.

''I can't wait to walk out of the show and get my music out.''

Host Dermot O'Leary described Janet as ''one of the most exciting people we've had on the show''. Kelly agreed, gushing that the teen had ''such a unique gift''.

Misha B joins girl band Little Mix, pink-haired Amelia Lily and the sole remaining male singer Marcus Collins in next Saturday's semi-final.

Last night's programme featured performances from former contestant Olly Murs, accompanied by The Muppets, and Jessie J.

This year's X Factor charity single Wishing on a Star was also performed by this year's finalists, joined by boy bands One Direction and JLS, who both found fame on the ITV1 show.

Hanson go to "unusual" lengths just to eat dinner, as otherwise they get mobbed by fans.

The 'MMMBop' band – made up of brothers Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson – say the wild antics of their followers have seen them go to great lengths to meet them, and they feel bad about having to dodge them in rock star style.

Isaac exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "There has been so many unusual things happen to us - like not being able to go out of a hotel because there are too many people in the lobby. So you have to like sneak out the back way, jump in a van with tinted windows, just so you can have dinner.

"I feel like a bit of a spoiled brat saying that. But unfortunately, and fortunately, there's a lot of stuff like that you experience a lot of times. Having people you don't know break into your hotel room and all that kind of stuff."

However, the band – who are performing at London's IndigO2 venue on Tuesday night (29.11.11) as part of their 'Shout It Out' world tour – admitted their most dedicated followers don't often think through their plans, and it is "awkward" when they come face-to-face with them when they have sneaked into their hotel rooms.
Isaac added: "It can be awkward, you know. I don't think their plan is actually thought out, because most of the times what happens is, you walk in and they freeze and don't really know exactly what to say or what to do."
Hanson's latest album 'Shout It Out' is out now.

The trio from Tulsa, Oklahoma, comprising brothers Issac (guitar, vocals), Taylor (keyboards, piano, vocals), and Zac Hanson (drums, vocals) are a household name the world over, having sold more than 15 million records worldwide and a number one record in 25 countries.
The Shout It Out tour will ill t It Outtone describing theirck for the real dealy so year, theound teh all over the UK r the image and account informatiofeature tracks from their acclaimed fifth studio album, as well as highlights from their previous four albums, spanning nearly 15 years of music.
Speaking to London24, 31-year-old Issac explained why they were so keen to make a return to the UK after an absence of four years.
“The UK is one of our favourite places to tour and play, and we have a lot of fun here,” he said.
“After four years of not being here, we’re trying to make up for lost time. It’s been a real goal for us to build and to focus ourselves and we decided we’re gonna focus on the whole world, and actually there are shows everywhere, but there’s always someone that you’re not getting to.
“So we’re trying to make everyone as happy as possible. The UK is kind of an anchor.”
Zac, the 26-year-old drummer, explained what they love most about touring.
“We’re musicians. We like playing live music. I don’t know how you could live this life and do this job and not be a live performer.
“That’s the reason why we do what we do and it was that way even as little kids. That still remains true. It’s the experience on stage. It’s the way the crowd is, the way the room sounds, it’s the challenge.
“We probably have less of a challenge than some bands because we have these amazing hardcore fans. There’s nothing like it. We have amazing fans. They’re incredible.”
Following on from the success of their critically acclaimed album The Walk and now recording under their own label, 3CG Records, the new album reflects where the band are personally and professionally.
“If you look at it that way, I think we’re in a pretty good place,” says Zac. “I think it’s a record that’s loud and proud and happy to be where it is.
“Our last album was called The Walk and I think that was indicative of the slow steady climb and I think this record is almost the opposite of that. It’s sort of reveling in the achievement of the time that has passed.
“The fact that this is our fifth album, it’s a landmark time for us. We’ve been doing this together for 20 years. It’s a big deal. There is a serious excitement in the feeling that is worth remembering and reveling in.”
While other bands have floundered, Hanson have been performing together for 20 years. Taylor explained how the brothers work together creatively.
“We have our good and our bad moments and when we creatively work it’s much like the way we interact.
“I mean, everybody has different styles. You try as much as possible to blend and I think over 20 years we’ve more or less figured it out. Everyone’s their own ways that they create music. What we’re really saying is, we’re all different and we draw on what each person has to contribute.”
Widely recognised for their philanthropic efforts, Hanson have followed in the footsteps of Johnny Depp, having been invited to speak at The Oxford Union.
And despite the innumerable accolades to their credit, including three Grammy nominations and described by U2 front man Bono as “genius,” as they explain, there’s much more to come from the Hanson boys.
“As accolades go, that’s not a bad one,” said Zac. “There are amusing moments and when somebody knows your music or someone says something like that, it’s amazing.
“Thing is when you write a song and the public responds to it, it’s a pretty amazing experience,” added Issac, “and I think we feel lucky to be in that position, but there’s much more still to come.”
Hanson will be performing at London IndigO2 on November 29.

Hanson's Zac: 'Being a rock god is awesome'

American rock/pop band Hanson have arrived in London this week for the UK leg of their 'Shout It Out' world tour.

The trio from Tulsa, Oklahoma, comprising brothers Isaac (guitar, vocals), Taylor (keyboards, piano, vocals), and Zac Hanson (drums, vocals) have sold over 15 million records worldwide and had a number one single in 25 countries.

Speaking to Digital Spy, 31-year-old Isaac explained why the band, who completed a sell-out five-night residency at King's College London in June, were so keen to make a return to the UK.

"The UK is one of our favourite places to tour and play, and we have a lot of fun here," he said.

"After four years of not being here, we're trying to make up for lost time. It's been a real goal for us to build and to focus ourselves, and we decided we're gonna focus on the whole world, and actually there are shows everywhere, but there's always someone that you're not getting to. So we're trying to make everyone as happy as possible. The UK is kind of an anchor."

Following on from the success of their critically-acclaimed album The Walk and now recording under their own label 3CG Records, the band have said that new album Shout It Out reflects where the trio are both personally and professionally.

"If you look at it that way, I think we're in a pretty good place," says Zac. "I think it's a record that's loud and proud and happy to be where it is. Our last album was called The Walk and I think that was indicative of the slow steady climb and I think this record is almost the opposite of that.

Isaac went on to explain how it feels to perform to an audience of thousands, saying: "There's definitely a high to performing, and our shows are a lot of up and down. You'll be quiet and then there's a peak, and the job is to get people out of their shell. I don't know exactly what a rock god feels like, but it's amazing and it's incredible."

For 26-year-old Zac, the opportunity to meet fans from different cultures has been the greatest revelation of the touring experience.

"You go to Chile, you go to Argentina, you go to Mexico, France, Germany, Italy, the US and the UK and still people respond to the same songs in a very similar way. To me, it's a very interesting experience," he added.

"More amazing than what's different about each culture, is how similar everyone is, even from very different cultures, different languages, and people respond in very similar ways. Being a rock god is pretty awesome!"

Hanson also offered their opinion on the music stars emerging from reality TV shows such as The X Factor and American Idol.

"I don't mean to be mean in saying this," said Zac, "but you're not gonna really find the best artist like that. You can find talented people at some level, but that's that - it's TV. As long as you look at it from that perspective and just enjoy it. Don't expect American Idol to crank out the next superstar or somebody that's gonna be the voice of a generation."

"Most of the greatest artists that have ever been, most of them would not win a show like that," added 28-year-old Taylor. "Bob Dylan's gonna walk up on stage and he'd get booed, or even Bruce Springsteen. They'd be like, 'You're singing like this?'

"So I think it's TV. It's entertaining and people like to see the story. There is some talent to come out of that, such as Leona Lewis."

The 'Shout It Out' tour will feature tracks from Hanson's acclaimed fifth studio album of the same name, as well as highlights from their previous four albums, spanning nearly 15 years of music.

Hanson will be performing at the following venues in the UK this month:

  • November 25 - Edinburgh, HMV Picture House
  • November 26 - Newcastle, O2 Academy
  • November 27 - Birmingham, HMV Institute
  • November 29 - London, IndigO2

Hanson Shout It Out In Canada

The Canadian leg kicks off Jan. 23 in Vancouver, British Columbia, at The Vogue Theatre, and wraps up Feb. 11 in Montreal at the Corona Theatre.
Additional stops include Kelowna, British Columbia (Jan. 24); Sherwood Park, Alberta (Jan. 27); Calgary Alberta (Jan. 28); Nelson, British Columbia (Jan. 29); Winnipeg, Manitoba (Feb. 3); Thunder Bay, Ontario (Feb. 4); Ottawa (Feb. 8); Belleville, Ontario (Feb. 9); and Toronto (Feb. 10).
“This tour will be the most extensive Canadian tour we’ve done to date. We’re excited to visit many parts of the country for the first time, and make Canada a part of our world tour,” singer/drummer Zac Hanson said in a statement.
Hanson has also rescheduled a few dates from the band’s U.S. “Musical Ride Tour” which were called off earlier this year because of illness. The new dates are Clifton Park, N.Y., at Northern Lights Feb. 14, and Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Music Hall Feb. 15. The group has also added a show in Sayreville, N.J., at Starland Ballroom Feb. 16.
Tickets for the Canadian leg as well as the Sayreville show go on sale to the public Friday. The only exceptions are the Sherwood Park and Calgary shows, which are on sale now.
Tickets from the postponed Pittsburgh show will be honored at the new date. The Albany and Pittsburgh shows are on sale now.
