The innerwebs are going nutty today about the supposed announcement of a Hanson-inspired beer, MMMHop.

There is no mentioned of the beverage, however, on the band's official website or Twitter accounts. There is no official word from Hanson management, either. An email to the Tulsa group's publicist has not been answered.

Said drummer Zac Hanson during an interview with the Oxford University Union: “It’s vital our fans have trust in everything Hanson do. We are soon going to be selling our own beer. I’m not joking – MMMhop IPA anyone?”

He also said, “We of course make records, they are fundamental to what we do, but we wanted to create a brand so that our fans have a greater experience," quoted Toronto.com.

Websites have since gone ape and run with the story, including sites like Beer Advocate, NME, the Times of India, Contact Music, Houston Chronicle and others.

So, tongue-in-cheek quip about the Hanson brand, or serious announcement? What do y'all think? ... Would you drink it?

Hanson: Get Ready for Our Tasty New Beer, MMMHop

Well, they are of drinking age now

If you like bitter brews and one-hit wonders, you're going to love MMMHop, the India pale ale reportedly being created by sibling pop trio Hanson in honor of their 1997 hit "MMMBop." The band-branded beer was announced by drummer Zac Hanson when he was speaking to Britain's Oxford University Union: "It's vital our fans have trust in everything Hanson do. In fact, we are soon going to be selling our own beer, I'm not even joking. MMMHop IPA anyone?" The band has yet to release any sort of official statement, but if it was in fact a joke (as it was when they announced plans for an album of Slipknot covers earlier this year), they might want to seriously consider taking advantage of this MMMBopportunity.

Hanson to Sell 'MMMHop' Beer

Pop trio says new brew will be high quality

Hanson are prepping the launch of MMMHop, their own brand of beer. The squeaky-clean pop trio hope to make the brew, an India Pale Ale, available to fans sometime in early 2012.

"We of course make records, they are fundamental to what we do, but we wanted to create a brand so that our fans have a greater experience," Zac Hanson told reporters at Oxford University Union in Oxford, England on Monday, justifying the new project. "What is vital is that Hanson merchandise is quality and not made solely with the purpose of profit."
"We have a board game and even a record player to play our last record on, but we will never make dolls, lunch boxes or toothbrushes that play our songs, for example. It's vital our fans have trust in everything Hanson do," says Hanson. "In fact, we are soon going to be selling our own beer, I'm not even joking. MMMHop IPA, anyone?"

Hanson to Brew "MMMhop" Beer

Hanson to Brew "MMMhop" BeerLet’s face it: if you were a Hanson fan in the mid ‘90s, you might just now be old enough to enjoy an alcoholic beverage legally. So, why not kick off early adulthood with a beer brewed by a band that might have defined your childhood?
The Hanson brothers — Taylor, Isaac and Zac — announced that they’ll be brewing their own beer at a conference held on Monday at the Oxford Union in the U.K. The beer — which will be called “MMMhop,” and don’t you dare pretend you don’t know why — is due out early next year, Express reported.
“It’s vital our fans have trust in everything Hanson do,” Zac Hanson explained. “We are soon going to be selling our own beer. I’m not joking – MMMhop IPA anyone?”
We’ll let you know how that IPA turns out when it hits the shelf next year. But until then, you can check out our assessments of this year’s winter and Christmas ales.

Fancy Some MmmHop, Hansons New Beer?

This news is so funny we had to double check the date to make sure it wasn’t April Fools.  Hanson, the boy brother group that unleashed the unholy terror that was MmmBop across the world have announced their intentions to couple their career comeback with the release of their own brand of beer, appropraitely called MmmHop.
During a talk and Q&A session at the Oxford Union on Monday, the reformed boy band told the audience that in addition to running their own independent music label and self-releasing its albums, they would be added another piece of merchandise to their growing list that rabid fans apparently still buy in bulk.
“It’s vital our fans have trust in everything Hanson do,” Zac Hanson, the band’s now 26-year old drummer, explained. “We are soon going to be selling our own beer. I’m not joking – MMMhop IPA anyone?”
The beer will sit alongside such gems as poorly printer t-shirts, playing cards, and their recently release Christmas collection which includes a wollen sweater and even Hanson Christmas tree ornaments.
It’s now been 14 years since MmmBop was released and the boys have indeed all grown up, Isaac Hanson, the guitarist, is 31, while middle brother Taylor, the keyboard player, is 28. And remember that cute little drummer? Yeah, he’s now 26-years old and has 2 kids. Taylor also has 4, and Isaac 2.
Sounds to us like all the boys have been up to a lot of MmmBopping. Check out our slideshow of the worst songs of the 90s.

Hanson's MmmHop IPA To Be Released Next Year, Other Boy Band Beers Sure To Follow

Rolling Stone, NME, and other outlets have reported that zit-laden superstars Hanson are preparing to market their own beer early next year. Cleverly titled Mmmhop, the IPA promises to bring bitter beer face to horny teenage girls all over the country. The band thinks the move is a logical extension of the other products they've marketed including a board game, a record player and enough clothing to stock an Urban Outfitter.
While bands marketing booze is nothing new, this may be the first time beer has been branded by a musical persona built on youth. Leveraged by the IPA, their hit song Mmmbob was released when youngest member Zachary Walker was just twelve years old.
The move is sure to spur other child band beer campaigns. City of Ate's top ideas include The Jackson Five's I Want You Bock, and Kris Kross' Kris Koelsch. The German style beer would sport a backwards label and make you jump, jump.

Hanson to Launch ‘MMMHop’ Beer Brand

Die-hard Hanson fans, many of whom are now of drinking age, can soon toast the ’90′s pop trio with the band’s own beer.
The Hanson brothers – Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson –announced Monday that they are developing an Indian Pale Ale named “MMMHop” after their biggest chart topping hit, “MMMBop,” the Toronto Star reported.
The beer is expected to be released in early 2012.
“We of course make records, they are fundamental to what we do, but we wanted to create a brand so that our fans have a greater experience,” Zac Hanson said at Oxford University Union on Monday night.
The band already has a branded board game and record player, and now they can add beer to their repertoire.
Hanson is not the first musical group to launch their own brand of alcoholic beverages.
Beers: British rock group Elbow developed “Build A Rocket Boys” beer in honor of their album of the same name last month, while Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott has a lager named “Down ‘N’ Outz.”
Wines: Motley Crue singer Vince Neil bought a vineyard in 2003 and launched his own line of wines under the label Vince Vineyards. Rapper Lil Jon also owns a vineyard in California called Little Jonathan Winery.
Hard Liquor: Marilyn Manson launched ”Mansinthe” in 2008, Willie Nelson has a brand of Kentucky bourbon called “Old Whiskey River,” Van Halen frontman Sammy Hager has a brand of tequila called “Cabo Wabo,” and rapper Dr. Dre has a brand of Cognac called “Aftermath.”

Hanson Beer: MMMhop IPA

Hanson

As kids, they gave the world "MMMbop." Now, as adults, Hanson is releasing MMMhop out into the world.
The brothers of the boy band-turned-fully grown rock trio announced at a talk at Oxford on Monday that they will be entering the adult beverage market with their very own brew.
"It's vital our fans have trust in everything Hanson do," Zac Hanson, the band's now 26-year old drummer, explained. "We are soon going to be selling our own beer. I'm not joking - MMMhop IPA anyone?"
While it's a cute name, the idea shouldn't actually come as a surprise. The band runs its own independent music label, self-releasing its albums, and has a whole line of branded products that their still-rabid fan base love to buy in bulk.
Isaac Hanson, the guitarist and oldest of the trio, is 31, while middle brother Taylor, the keyboard player, is 28. They each have a number of children; Taylor has 4, Isaac has 2, and Zac has 2. They've released eight studio albums.

MMMHop: Hanson to launch beer

Hanson are launching their own beer.
The musical brothers Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson are in the process of developing an Indian Pale Ale which they plan to release in early 2012, and are going to name the beverage MMMHop after their biggest hit MMMBop.
However, the group admitted they are unlikely to ever follow in the footsteps of other boy bands and develop miniature dolls of themselves.
Speaking at Oxford University Union on Monday night, Zac said: “We of course make records, they are fundamental to what we do, but we wanted to create a brand so that our fans have a greater experience.
“What is vital is that Hanson merchandise is quality and not made solely with the purpose of profit. We have a board game and even a record player to play our last record on, but we will never make dolls, lunch boxes or toothbrushes that play our songs for example.
“It’s vital our fans have trust in everything Hanson do. In fact we are soon going to be selling our own beer, I’m not even joking. MMMHop IPA anyone?”
Hanson are not the first band to launch their own beer, as last month British group Elbow developed Build A Rocket Boys Beer in honour of their album of the same name, while Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott launched a lager named Down ‘N’ Outz.
Elsewhere, the likes of AC/DC and Carlos Santana have developed their own wines.
