Well here’s something I never thought I’d see. Hanson, yes that Hanson, have gone into the beer business and are preparing to launch their own brand – MmmHop. Get it? Just like their hit song from 1997. Just when I thought Hanson had left my life forever, they came back, reincarnated as something I love. Now the magic and wonder of MmmBop has grown up and is ready to accompany me to the bars – hopefully it will make my heart flutter the way its namesake single did for young girls all those years ago. While the foray into craft brewing may come as a surprise, it should be noted that the Hanson boys run their own label from which they self-release all their albums, as well as an entire line of Hanson branded line of products. “It’s vital our fans have trust in everything Hanson do,” said Zac Hanson, the now 26-year old drummer. “We are soon going to be selling our own beer. I’m not joking – MMMhop IPA anyone?” The pop band trio’s plan is to brew and release the Indian Pale Ale, and hopefully make it available by early 2012.
Hanson wanted to make it clear that this was simply a side project, and would not interfere with their initial jobs of writing songs. “We of course make records, they are fundamental to what we do, but we wanted to create a brand so that our fans have a greater experience,” Zac Hanson explained.
This has been an eventful year for Hanson, having been relatively dead since the 90’s. It saw the release of their new single and music video “Give a Little”, for which it took more then half of for me to realize why I recognized the three guys performing it, and now their new beer venture. Since their inception in the 90’s, Hanson has released 8 albums, the most recent of which came out last year. The guys are now in their late 20’s and all have families of their own. Even the blond early teen rockers that brought us Mmmbop eventually grew up! Watch out middle-aged IPA fans, Hanson has set their sights on you. Perhaps this means we can look forward to a Justin Bieber vodka line in 2020?
