Pop artists from your youth may soon be producing your beer. That is, if you grew up in the ’90s, were familiar with the band Hanson and you like IPAs.
In a talk at Oxford on Monday, the band told their audience that they intend to produce a beer called MMMHop, a title that alludes to their original 1997 hit, MMMBop.
“We are soon going to be selling our own beer. I’m not joking – MMMHop IPA anyone?” Zac Hanson, 26, said at the talk, according to theDaily Express.
The concept is taking the social media sphere by storm, and Twitter users seem to have a good deal to say about the band breaking into the brewing business.
“The Hanson Brothers are having an IPA brewed called MMMHop. They and their business manager should be taken in the middle of the night,” HalfAcreBeer, a brewery in Chicago, tweeted.
“Husband’s response to my excitement over Mmmhop: ‘I married a bubble gum, pop-princess!’,” Twitter user LPMarkham tweeted.
Such a concept won’t be foreign to fans of the San Francisco based group, Train, who have already come out with a wine called “Drops of Jupiter” after their 2002 Grammy winning track.
The original MMMBop rose to number one on the Billboard charts in 1997, and led to three Grammy awards in 1998.  Clearly MMMHop has a lot to live up to.
