Hanson Plays Pair Of Area Dates This Weekend

Hanson1:56 p.m. EDT, October 3, 2011
Drummer Zac Hanson was just six years old when he and older brothers Isaac and Taylor played their first gig together, a few years before "MMMBop" would make the young trio a worldwide sensation.

Nearly two decades later, all three brothers are married with children, and Hanson is still releasing soulful, rootsy pop-rock albums and playing to packed houses nationwide. The band is back on the road this fall, and after already making the rounds in support of last year's "Shout It Out," it's reinforcing its strong bond with its fans by letting them guide the content of each show. Each night, Hanson will build its set around a complete performance of one of its five major studio albums, as selected in a fan vote at http://www.hanson.net/.

Charlie Mars opens when Hanson plays a pair of area dates this weekend: the Calvin Theatre, 19 King St. in Northampton, on Friday (8 p.m. $29.50 -$39.50, 413-586-8686, http://www.iheg.com/) and Toad's Place, 300 York St. in New Haven, on Saturday (7 p.m., $30, 203-624-TOAD, http://www.toadsplace.com/).
