Among '90s boy bands, Hanson held the unique distinction of being actual songwriters and musicians. They also held the unique distinction of confusing young men. As they rose to fame in 1997, a common comment was "the girl is pretty cute, if only she was a little older."
The "girl" in Hanson was Taylor Hanson. His high cheek bones, pouty lips, and glorious hair made it easy to mistake him for a striking young lady. Taylor's grown up and looks more manly now -- well, as manly as Jon Bon Jovi or Goo Goo Doll frontman Johnny Rzeznik. The band has grown as well; its songwriting has always been strong and catchy, and while we've been trying to erase our initial impression of the boys from our memory, they've released eight studio albums and a handful of singles that have charted on the Billboard 100. Good work, men!
This Saturday, the brothers from the Middle of Nowhere are performing at Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale. To celebrate the place Hanson holds in our hearts, we've made a list of other artists that make us question their sexuality while making us sing along.

Poison
Look at the album cover for 1986's Look What the Cat Dragged In. These guys look like the girls that would dance for them at Sunset Strip's the Cathouse.
K.D. Lang
She looks like a man; she looks like she wants to look like a man.
Hall and Oates
Not always, but on this album cover, not even Oates' gargantuan mustache keeps them from looking like Darryl Hannah & Whitney Houston.
Antony and the Johnsons
With a voice like Nina Simone and an image that brings Winona Ryder, modern-day Boy George, and Seal to mind, frontman Antony Hegarty is the ultimate in 21st-century sexual confusion.
Boy George
His name is Boy, his look was girl -- now it's Uncle Fester at Rave -- and his hits rival Cyndi Lauper for girls'-night-out anthems.
Hanson. 7 p.m. Saturday, November 6, at Revolution, 200 W. Broward Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $24. Click here.
